Background: Before studying with me (Gao Ba-Gua and Hsing-Yi), Stefan spent more than 25 years working with Bujinkan Ninjutsu, including time spent in Japan with Masaaki Hatsumi.  A professor of the Classics, Psychology and Philosophy, Stefan offers class by invitation only. Stefan works extensively with Energetic Therapies and their relation to the body and mind. In his work, Stefan references Jungian psychology with his deep work in Tibetan Buddhism. He has extensive training in both Gao Hsing-I and Ba-gua from me and has studied with other lineages as well.

Study Group Leader: Robert Hoffmann (Hudson Valley, NY)

Background: Robert has spent more than 25 years researching the connections between peak performance and the classic arts of cultivation. Robert offers concentrated work on the essentials of Tai-Chi (taiji), Hsing-Yi, Gao Ba-Gua Zhang, Chi Gung (Qigong) and Meditation. Robert presents an emphasis on the holistic benefits of these practices and their connections to Global Wisdom Traditions. Robert has been working with my material for more than a decade, and has studied extensively with high-calibur instructors from a number of quality schools.

Background: A lifetime in martial arts going from karate to Bando (Burmese) systems, David offers comprehensive instruction. In his classes, David presents his insights from his background in the Burmese systems with what he has learned from me in Hsing-Yi and Ba-Gua. David was a member of the bodyguard team I assembled to support the security of the Dalai Lama during his visit to America in the 90’s. As a Native American, David has researched and is very familiar with Tibetan Buddhism and its relation to the cosmology and practices of the Cherokee Indians. Study Group Leader: Kyro Lantsburger (Rochester MN area)

Background: Kyro is a long term student of Chinese Internal Arts which he enjoys cross referencing with old physical culture techniques and scientific freestyle wrestling. Mr. Lantsburger is an avid student of comparative religion with an emphasis on the overlap between the mystic teachings of Buddhism and Christianity.

Study Group Leader: Allen Carrol (Atlanta, GA)

Background: Mr. Carrol’s background is rooted in professional baseball and semi-pro boxing & physical therapy.  His work in Tae Kwon expanded into the studying Hsing-I and Ba-gua (with me), and Tai-chi with other teachers. Mr. Carrol also studied with the sons of Chen Pan-ling as well as a student of Hung I-Shang, Robert Yu.

 

South-East USA:

Study Group Leader: David Jones (Atlanta area)

Background: David Jones was originally trained in Northern Shaolin through Craig Kiessling. After we met, David began working with me and the Gao Ba-Gua in the early morning study group when I was living in Atlanta. David teaches between working in set design for the movie industry and so does not have regular classes.

 

West Coast USA

Robert Nakashima has taught Tai Chi and internal martial arts in the Sacramento area for more than 20 years. In addition, he is the co-founder of WarriorHeart, a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching yoga, Tai Chi and Qigong to those with chronic illness.

Background: Hal is an expert in the forms of Chen Pan-ling (Tai Chi, Hsing-Yi & Ba Gua – including weapons). Hal and I both trained with Robert Smith and core teachers in Taiwan) including the Chen and Hung families. Hal supplements his core material with excursions into the work of Sun Lu Tang and others. Hal has worked with me on the Gao system and is highly capable in its methodology. Hal is a trained in Thai Massage and other therapeutic modalities. With extensive knowledge of Tibetan Buddhism, Hal presents his material with fascinating insights into the nature of Buddhist practice and the qualities of mind-matter overall.
